Our team supports rural American counties experiencing generational poverty.
We fund county level studies that provide a Guaranteed Minimum Income to folks while gathering sound, evidence based scientific data. We engage with existing local rural community stakeholders – veterans organizations, communities of faith, local businesses, and neighborhood groups.
We have fully funded GMI studies in three counties so far, working with GiveDirectly building on their many prior US GMI studies, assisted by OpenResearch, who conducted the largest GMI study in the United States from 2020 to 2023.
Our Plan
- There are 3,143 counties in the United States; approximately 60% are rural. Over time, with resolve and careful planning, fund rural GMI studies in all 50 states.
- Build a public, open repository of rural GMI study data to learn from.
- Support a community of practice to coordinate and improve future rural GMI studies.
- Create more data showing that direct cash transfers are a practical, efficient, simpler method of eliminating poverty and generating opportunity across all of America.
We hope that GMI can eventually become policy because recent study data and American history tells us it works – so let's create more data and more history together. 💛
